Launching blog

Today, I will be launching my blog on cryptocurrencies.  For the last few weeks, I have been downloading daily data on cryptocurrencies from CoinGecko and Yahoo Finance. Now that I have downloaded enough data, I want to start doing some analysis on the data using Python.

My reasoning for doing this is that most of the analysis that I see on cryptos is technical analysis.  This is -mainly- the study of one asset -cryptocurrency- at a time to understand future behavior. However, there is very little macro-analysis performed on cryptocurrencies to see how they act over time.  The goal of this blog then is to perform a macro-analysis of the cryptocurrency market.

To achieve this end, I will be doing different types of analysis over time.  Today, my main goal is just to launch the blog to get things moving.

Notes:

1)  While I use CoinMarketCap.com (CMC) for my own personal use.  I will be using Yahoo Finance data for this blog for the next couple of months.  This is because CMC places restrictions on the personal use of its data.  I am looking into buying a commercial use license from CMC.

2) I will post new content on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  This will mainly be the charts.  I will add written text as time goes on.

3) I will be making adjustments to this blog (edits, new charts, etc.) periodically so it is best to go back and check for updates.

4) If you plan to use any of the content of this blog, please cite me.

Today's notes:

The first chart that I have shows the top 25 cryptocurrencies by price.  As the chart shows the most expensive crypto is not Bitcoin.  It is PUNK.  PUNK had a price of $262,150. Information about PUNK can be found here. https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/punk/

The second and third charts show market dominance by coin.  In these charts, we see that Bitcoin dominates the overall cryptocurrency market with 56% of the market.

The last chart shows the top cryptocurrencies by total market capitalization.  Here again, Bitcoin dominates the market.
